I specialize in timeless, fine art photography and my passion is combining traditional and lifestyle portraiture while photographing families, seniors, maternity and branding clients in Cle Elum, Washington and surrounding areas.
Hello friend, I’m Mary, the proud owner of Feather + Larch and a passionate local photographer dedicated to preserving the stunning landscapes of Upper Kittitas County. Whether I’m gazing up at the Milky Way on a warm summer evening, sipping coffee at the Red Bird Cafe, or cheering at the rodeo with my family, I live and breathe the magic of the American West.
At Feather + Larch, our storefront is more than just a shop; it’s a gateway to the mesmerizing world of Upper Kittitas County. We offer an extensive range of artwork, clothing, and gifts tailored for mountain enthusiasts like you. Every item in our collection holds a piece of this remarkable region, waiting to grace your home.
If you’re a local in the Roslyn area, you likely remember the monumental snowstorm of January 6, 2022, when a whopping 39 inches of snow fell within a mere 24 hours. My husband and I took on the task of clearing the snow on our tractor, hour after hour. On January 7th, as we ventured into town to check on my commercial space, something magical unfolded on Masterson Road. The snowplows had just carved a path, and the elk emerged onto the freshly cleared road. It was a breathtaking moment, and I’m eternally grateful we were in the right place at the right time to capture it.
Enter the heart of Roslyn, where art and imagination collide. This creation is a testament to creativity—a reimagining of two of the most iconic scenes in Upper Kittitas County. My journey to capture this moment was one of extraordinary patience, spanning months, as I eagerly awaited the morning when our main street would be devoid of cars.
The moment I had been anticipating finally arrived as I set out for my morning coffee at Basecamp Books and Bites. My coffee forgotten, I seized the opportunity to capture the building facades and then rushed to Indian John Hill to capture the Stuart Range. Two photographs, taken just minutes apart, reimagined and expertly woven together to create a harmonious fusion of nature and man’s most splendid icons.
Allow us to introduce you to Ben’s very first contribution to our shop—a work of art that complements the spirit of the Upper Kittitas County perfectly. Embarking on the Earl Peak trail is an adventure in itself. Covering 3.5 miles with a staggering 4,000 feet of elevation gain, it’s a journey reserved for experienced hikers. The ascent to the peak alone demands approximately 3.5 hours.
But the reward at the summit is nothing short of extraordinary—an awe-inspiring 360-degree vista that encompasses the Teanaway Valley and Enchantments. It’s a known fact that few people choose to conquer this hike, so to have this piece hang in our shop is all the more meaningful. A lovely work of art that perfectly encapsulates the majesty of our beloved Upper Kittitas County.
This piece is so new that it hasn’t graced our shop’s walls yet! Another remarkable contribution by none other than Mr. Feather + Larch himself, Ben Maletzke.
Embarking on this hike is an adventure that begins in the embrace of a mature lowland forest. As you ascend, you’ll find yourself transcending the treeline, stepping into an alpine world of rocky grandeur. From the vantage point near the base of Mt. Daniels, the viewer can gaze down upon the serene beauty of Peggy’s Pond and the awe-inspiring Cathedral Rock.
If you’re a fan of the TV show Northern Exposure, you’ll instantly recognize the image below from Roslyn’s Cafe in the series. Our quaint mountain town is beloved by Northern Exposure enthusiasts who frequent the Roslyn Cafe during their visits. The enchantment of this image lies in its unique capture of falling snow and glowing lights—a moment frozen in time, exclusive to our corner of the world.

Red Top Lookout, standing tall since 1952, continues to serve as a functional fire lookout. The hike to Red Top Lookout may be steep but is short and easily manageable, and the panoramic views of the county are absolutely worth the effort. It grants breathtaking views of Stuart Range, Teanaway Ridge, Chelan and Entiat Mountains, Mount Rainier, and on clear days, even Mount Adams. This image beautifully frames as both a vertical or square piece of artwork, adding a touch of the cosmos to your space.
Following a challenging hike and an overnight stay at Miller Peak, I was fortunate to capture the breathtaking sunrise over Navajo Peak. The strenuous journey was undoubtedly rewarded by this awe-inspiring view. This image effortlessly adapts to both horizontal and square frames, ensuring it fits seamlessly with other artwork pieces in your home.
For long-time residents, the Nelson Dairy Farm at Suncadia is a cherished memory, now immortalized in this piece of history. It’s a sentimental favorite for locals and families who have made visiting Suncadia an annual tradition.
Elk, iconic symbols of the mountains, features prominently in this image. Its appeal lies in the beauty of these creatures and its compatibility with various decorative styles. I had the privilege of capturing this image in Joe Watt Canyon, a serene moment now available to adorn your walls.
This enigmatic cabin in the Teanaway, with its ever-present flickering light, is well-known to locals. Its aura of mystery adds to the allure. You’ll find it on your way to the Miller Peak Trail, a cherished gem of Upper Kittitas County.
Nestled on the southern fringes, just outside the Alpine Lakes Wilderness in Kittitas County, Cooper Lake is a pristine alpine freshwater gem. Stretching across 129 acres and extending nearly a mile in length, it embodies the unspoiled tranquility that Upper Kittitas County has to offer.
Cooper Lake, a piece of art that can be customized to suit your space, whether it’s in landscape, portrait, or square format. This stunning image not only captures the essence of Upper Kittitas County but also brings the serenity of Cooper Lake right into your home.
