I specialize in timeless, fine art photography and my passion is combining traditional and lifestyle portraiture while photographing families, seniors, maternity and branding clients in Cle Elum, Washington and surrounding areas.
This morning my first stop of the day was at the Cle Elum Bakery (picking up coffee that was waiting for me before I even walked in the door). It is one of the many small businesses that make this area so special, and is a great place to start your Small Business Saturday! Keep scrolling for a highlighted selection of wonderful local shops.
As a small business owner myself, I know how much this Holiday season means to the local small businesses in our own communities. That when we shop and support local we’re helping families who live in our communities. We’re putting food on a neighbor’s table, helping our friends pay their mortgage, put their kids in sports and funding college tuition. In addition, when you support a local business, you’re also supporting your town, city, and neighborhood. Businesses pay sales taxes to the city and county the business is located in. That tax money is used to support public schools, parks, roads, and sidewalks, as well as fund public service workers, like firefighters.
But its more than that: we are helping businesses survive and thrive during what has been a particularly challenging time. I am committed to shopping local more than ever and I want to make it easy for you to shop local this holiday season too! Here are a small selection of spots to stop at on this Small Business Saturday in Cle Elum and Roslyn. If you would like to nominate a shop to be featured next year, please leave a comment on the blog with the name of the shop and what you love about them!
Black Sheep Home Goods is the perfect addition to downtown Cle Elum, with home decor, clothing, and more! Owner Danielle Bricker has curated the most delightful shop with something for everyone, whether you are treating yourself or someone else. Open Fri-Sun from 10-6. Make sure to stop by at noon on Small Business Saturday for their ribbon cutting and grand opening!
Secret Valley Jam opened in Cle Elum in June of 2021. From scratch made jam and jellies to pie fillings to spicy mango taco sauce, they have it all. My personal favorite is the fiery peach jam spread over cream cheese served with crackers! Shop in person, or gift someone a “Jam of the Month” membership!
The Cle Elum Downtown Association has done a wonderful job organizing holiday markets throughout December! Many of the best small businesses begin at home, and markets allow those businesses to grow and reach new customers. If you are considering creating (or growing!) a small business, reach out to the Chamber of Commerce’s Business Development Center located in downtown Cle Elum.

Try the BSB Brown Sugar Bourbon truffles or Peppermint Buttercreams. My personal favorite is the salted caramel marshmallows. Get an assorted box as a gift this small business Saturday, then treat your self too!

Nicely done! I have a family history with Roslyn and Cle Elum. It always has a warm place in my heart even now after my mother, a Barich, passed away this year. She was one of 15 Children born to Croatian immigrants who chose Roslyn to settle in and raise their family. These small towns have such a rich history of immigrants who came to America to start a new life.
Mary this is great! You did an amazing job highlighting some incredible small businesses in our community!! Thanks for reminding me where I can find some great gifts for my family this year to take with me back to Oklahoma! : )
This is such a wonderful glimpse of the town’s in a nutshell. This area is near and dear to my heart and you did it justice. Great read.
This is wonderful, even for those of us who only periodically visit this incredible part of Washington! Keep up the great work.
Mary, you hit all my favorites where we’ve already done some shopping, and showcased some I now need to get into. Happy holidays.
All this needs is the Christmas music, ” I”ll be home for Christmas” playing in the background!
