I specialize in timeless, fine art photography and my passion is combining traditional and lifestyle portraiture while photographing families, seniors, maternity and branding clients in Cle Elum, Washington and surrounding areas.
The Segota family homestead was established around 1900 when John Segota emigrated to the United States. For nearly 100 years the home had been continuously owned by his descendants until it was sold outside of the family about 10 years ago. When the property finally became available again in 2020, Skye and Laura Osiadacz jumped at the opportunity to purchase it back. Returning the homestead to their family lineage again was a dream come true.
From floor to ceiling, the couple spent an entire year lovingly bringing the family home back to life. One of their last tasks was completing their wall displays. They reached out to me in their search for a local Cle Elum family photographer. Skye and Laura had a specific vision in mind; to recreate some special photos.
The first was of Great Aunt Katherine and Great Uncle George Liboky, who previously owned the homestead. On their wedding day in the 1940s they took a similar photo to the one the couple created above.
We also recreated a family photo of the Segota family taken in 1921. Pictured are 5 of John and Ivka Segota’s daughters in front of the family home.
“We feel it does a wonderful job of capturing the history of the family and the fact that exactly 100 years later we, too, are able to raise our family in the same home.” – Laura
And finally, we created additional family portraits that are more modern and yet remain faithful to the historical nature of the home. Having completed the interior with the last piece of the story, Skye and Laura have now turned their attention to the outside of their property.
“We are the stewards of this property. Currently, we are bringing back to life the garden that was first established by Skye’s great grandmother. We have restored an extensive raspberry patch and vegetable garden. And, we also plan to utilize the fruit trees on our property. In the spring we are looking forward to bringing the chicken coop back to life. Continuing to rebuild the farm is important to us. “
This session was such a powerful reminder that photos are essential in the creation and historical telling of our legacy. They are one of the few items in this life that live on long beyond our physical presence. Sadly, digital images often become inaccessible as technology advances. This is why printed heirloom albums and wall art are such an integral part of the process when working with me. Because I want every family to have the opportunity for this visual history.
